Terms of Service
Last updated October 18, 2026
These terms are an agreement between you and SongChute ("we", "us"), based in Ontario, Canada. By creating an account or using SongChute you agree to them. If you do not agree, please do not use SongChute.
1. Who can use SongChute
For now SongChute is open to people in Canada and the United States. You must be at least 16, or the age of majority where you live if that is higher, unless a parent or guardian agrees to these terms for you. One account per person; keep your password to yourself. You are responsible for what happens on your account.
2. Your content
"Your content" means the charts, lyrics, notes, set lists, gigs, links, sheet music and other files you add. You keep any rights you have in it. To run SongChute we need your permission to store it, display it to you and to the people you choose to share it with, make backup copies, and convert it for display (for example sorting a chart into sections). You give us that permission for as long as your content is on SongChute.
You promise that you have the right to add and share everything you upload, and that your use of it is personal or within your band, studio or ensemble. Do not upload anything you do not have the right to use.
3. Sharing is private
SongChute is built for private use. Your songs are visible only to you and the bands you share them with. A band has up to 6 people. Public pages on SongChute show chord charts without lyrics. Do not use SongChute to publish material to the public or to distribute it to people outside your band.
4. What is not allowed
- Spam, advertising, scams, or links to unrelated sites.
- Harassment, hate, threats, or content that sexualizes minors (which we report to the authorities).
- Sexually explicit or graphic violent material.
- Illegal activity, or content that infringes someone else's copyright, trademark or privacy.
- Malware, or any attempt to break, overload, scrape or get around the security or limits of SongChute.
- Using SongChute as a private messaging or file-sharing service for anything other than music.
- Creating accounts automatically, or creating accounts to get around a suspension.
5. How we keep SongChute safe
To enforce these terms and protect people using SongChute, we use automated checks (for example for links to outside sites, contact details and words common in spam or scams) and our team may review content, including content shared only within a band, when it is flagged, reported, or needed to keep the service safe or meet the law. We may remove content, limit features, or suspend or close accounts that break these terms, with or without notice. If you think we got it wrong, contact us through the contact form on the Help page.
6. Reporting
Use the Report link on a song, gig or band member to tell us about content or behaviour that breaks these terms. Reports are private: we do not tell the person who reported them. You can also write to us through the contact form on the Help page.
7. Copyright complaints
If you own the rights to material on SongChute and believe it is being used without permission, send a notice through our copyright notice form with: your contact details; the work you own; where it appears on SongChute (a link or description); a statement that you believe the use is not authorized; a statement that the information is accurate and that you are the owner or authorized to act for them; and your signature. We will review it, remove or disable access to the material where appropriate, and tell the account holder. We follow the notice-and-notice rules of Canada's Copyright Act and respond to notices under the U.S. Digital Millennium Copyright Act. Accounts that repeatedly infringe are closed.
8. Plans and payments
SongChute has a free plan with limits and a paid Member plan, billed monthly or yearly in U.S. or Canadian dollars. Prices are shown on our pricing page and may change with notice before your next billing period. If you go over a limit, or a paid plan ends, nothing is deleted; you just cannot add more until you are back under the limit. You can cancel at any time; your plan stays active until the end of the period you paid for.
9. Ending your account
You can delete your account at any time in your settings. We may close accounts that break these terms or that have not verified their email address within 7 days. When an account is deleted, its content is removed from SongChute, apart from copies we must keep for legal reasons or that remain in backups for a limited time.
10. No warranty, and limits on liability
SongChute is provided "as is". We work hard to keep it running and your content safe, but we cannot promise it will always be available or error free. Keep your own copies of anything important. To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for indirect or consequential losses, and our total liability is limited to the amount you paid us in the 12 months before the claim.
11. Changes
We may update these terms. If a change is significant we will tell you by email or in the app before it takes effect. Continuing to use SongChute after that means you accept the new terms.
12. Law
These terms are governed by the laws of Ontario and the federal laws of Canada that apply there, without taking away any rights you have under the consumer protection laws of where you live.
